I have guidance that I can say the team I’m technically not in yet (this is the end of my first month) is the Strategic Framework Team – and they are a lovely bunch. They are part of the Cabinet Office.
My brain and feet are a little little fuzzy. Today I helped facilitate what I think is the second meeting of the Strategic Framework Leadership Community, the first was in June, the discussion was about what next and that for now is as much I think I can say about the details.
This week.
- You have to put yourself out there and give things a go, but when unexpected knock backs come they can be hard.
For lots of good reasons when I joined I knew I wanted to start a Library, so I did. The Strategic Framework Library was born in week 2 and started outside of our room (LG15).
On Monday when I came in I found it in the recycling bins (correctly sorted, which was on one hand nice to see). I put up a positit where it had been ‘that was quite upsetting – with my email’ and popped down the corridor to see the cleaning team, they knew nothing of it. I left for a chat (see 2.) I decided to let it go as it was upsetting and I felt would get in the way of my head for Friday, so I carried on. What’s nice is that the team are supportive and we’re not going to let it go – yet.
2. It’s difficult to have difficult conversations.
Tammy from the Civil Service HR ODD team put out a call a good few months back for people that would like to have a difficult conversation. The sort of things that you don’t normally talk about, like that I’m a straight, white, middle class male and if you don’t scratch the surface then you won’t know that I’m a… or I have opinions about… in our conversation we sought of talked round it, there were four of us we hadn’t all met before, next time we might get deeper. What was nice was that I left with no unfinished business, and notes on things to consider.
3. I know what my comforter is.
Thankfully the Defra Group ODD Team still had a well stocked cabinett, I stocked it. I looked round DfE on Wednesday but only saw one or two packs. I definitely didn’t need all of these that I borrowed and will take back unopened packs next week. But when I prep for meetings it’s not a well honed agenda or agreed notes it’s having the right materials on the day that matters.
4. It’s really hard.
Kit, Elspeth and I met up for a chat about OneGreenGov in the UK, we’re getting closer to the event. But when I say it’s really hard I don’t mean putting on an event, though they don’t happen on they own they with enough will and grit general come to pass. The thing that’s hard is getting through to a point of action. During our chat I saw a cycle about realisation, grief and action. Which we chatted around.
I think it’s maybe one to tidy up.
I finished the book Messy yesterday and have started Doughnut Economics. In summary lots to think on this week. Table lamp and lightbulb have been added to the to look at list over the weekend as well as the write up of the Advanced Practitioner Programme.
No grammar or spelling check this week, I have run out of train track.
